Vienna Prater: Do You Need a Ticket, and Is the Ferris Wheel Worth It?
Updated October 14, 2026 · 5 min read
You do not need one admission ticket simply to enter the Prater; book the attraction you actually want. For most visitors that is the Giant Ferris Wheel Ride with Direct Turnstile Access, from €14.50 and backed by 8,617 reviews. The Prater Super Ticket bundles four small attractions for €10. Madame Tussauds is an indoor museum visit, while the Strauss dinner show is an entire evening rather than an amusement-park ticket.
| Ticket | Duration | From | Rating and reviews | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Giant Ferris Wheel Ride with Direct Turnstile Access | not stated | €14.50 | 4.5, 8,617 reviews | Vienna’s signature Prater view |
| Madame Tussauds Admission Ticket | not stated | €23.85 | 4.6, 1,234 reviews | an indoor interactive visit |
| Prater Super Ticket | not stated | €10 | 4.4, 191 reviews | four named fairground attractions |
| Johann Strauss Dinner Show at the Prater | 3 hours | €99 | 4.6, 1,026 reviews | dinner and Strauss music |
What the Ferris wheel ticket solves
The ticket gives direct access to the turnstile, and the ride offers a view onto the UNESCO-listed city that most people associate with the Prater. It does not cover the rest of the amusement park. The ride is worthwhile for a first trip or the skyline; it is poor value if heights hold no appeal and you only want the fairground atmosphere at ground level.

The alternatives are not equivalent
Madame Tussauds offers 90 wax figures across 12 interactive museum areas and the Sisi Uncovered Experience. Choose it for an indoor attraction, not as a better version of the wheel. The Super Ticket covers Tagada, The Clown, a hillbilly shooting range and archery; none of them is the Giant Ferris Wheel.

The Johann Strauss dinner show places a Viennese dinner menu and Strauss classics in a mirrored tent at the Prater for three hours. At €99 it makes sense as a planned evening; the surcharge is wasted if your aim is simply to ride something and leave.

My recommendation
For a recognisably Viennese Prater experience, buy the Giant Ferris Wheel ticket. Buy the Super Ticket only for its four listed attractions, Madame Tussauds for indoor time, and the dinner show when music and a meal are the actual reason for going.
